Our Insurance Policy
No Insurance? High Deductible? Out of Network? No Problem!
At Back to Health Chiropractic, we believe that you deserve individualized treatments for your unique body, unique past experiences, and unique goals. Many times chiropractic services are delivered by what an insurance company dictates is best for the patient. Dr. Kirkham believes in a patient-centered approach with the freedom to put his patients first and determine the best treatment plan without bias from an insurance company. Dr. Kirkham is passionate and dedicated to taking care of YOU. While you have the opportunity to submit the superbill to your insurance, Dr. Kirkham will not make his treatment decisions based upon what is best for the insurance, rather what is best for you. When you join Back to Health Chiropractic you are not just a patient, you're family. We offer discounted payment options and accept Medicare, and auto insurance medical payment claims.
Discount Program
We have several different discounted payment options available to make care affordable and convenient. A flexible extended payment plan with no financing charges is also available. We will do complimentary benefits check on your initial appointment to verify any insurance coverage. If you do have benefits for chiropractic care, we will be able to provide you with a superbill or itemized statement that could be submitted to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
Medicare
Our office is a participating provider with Medicare Part B. This is great for those with this coverage as it will allow for a certain number of chiropractic adjustments based on the condition that is present. It does not cover initial exams, x-rays and other therapies. However, our office provides a cash courtesy for those services. Please bring your Medicare card with you to your first visit and we will happily verify your benefits for you.
Auto Insurance
If you have been injured in a recent auto injury, you may be able to receive chiropractic treatment through your auto insurance plan. This will be under the “medical payments coverage” portion of your plan. We will be able to assist you through this process as we are very knowledgeable and experienced in working with auto insurance companies. Please bring your auto insurance policy and claim information with you to your first visit and we will be happy to verify it for you. If you have an attorney, unfortunately we do not accept personal injury liens at this time.
Insurance Guidelines
“Chiropractic Maintenance Therapy is NOT medically reasonable or necessary and is not payable under the Medicare program. Maintenance therapy includes services that seek to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong and enhance the quality of life, or maintain or prevent deterioration of a chronic condition.” - Medicare Statute 2251.3(B)
READ THAT AGAIN!!! Does the above statement sound like an organization that truly has your health and well-being in mind? Unfortunately, Medicare sets the standard for ALL insurance companies around the country. This means that they all adopt the same or similar guidelines as the one quoted above. Basically, if one of them doesn’t cover certain services, none of them will.
These companies are willing to cover the exorbitant cost for surgeries, but not anything to prevent these drastic measures from being taken. These preventative measures are considered "elective", meaning it is something you choose to do and not something that is "medically necessary" in the eyes of insurance.
Insurance companies, in general, are all structured the same way, whether it is for your car, your house, or your health…they are there for the “big, bang, booms” but not the routine maintenance. When was the last time your car insurance paid for an oil change, or your homeowners insurance paid for a furnace filter? Even though this routine maintenance is necessary to prevent further damage from occurring, the insurance company does NOT pay for these services. Instead, they elect to (maybe) cover the bigger repairs, even though they often fight to get out of paying for those too.
Insurance was initially designed for EMERGENCY situations only, and does a fantastic job in this regard. If your liver is cut in half in an accident, you want to have the best surgeon to save your life and insurance should pay. However, insurance was never intended to cover preventative or maintenance care, and this is the category that a majority of our chiropractic or neuropathy services fall into.
YES - it is a backwards system, as far as health care is concerned - but it IS the system we unfortunately have. Insurance should technically be called “sick care insurance”, not healthcare insurance.
At the end of the day, the truth is this…
Your insurance company DOES NOT CARE about your health or well-being. They are a financial institution whose only goal is to do things as quickly and cheaply as possible while forcing everyone into the mainstream traditional medical system of drugs, injections, and surgeries. This is why our office made the decision a long time ago that we will not sign an agreement with an insurance company that makes the doctor prioritize the financial gain of the insurance company over a patient’s needs.
If your end goal is to get results, the highest quality of care, an office staff that is fully attentive to your needs, and a doctor that goes above and beyond to help you with your health concerns, then you are in the right place.
If your main concern is only pursuing care that your insurance covers, even after reading what their guidelines state, then we are not the right fit for you and wish you the very best in whatever you decide to pursue.
